Starting solids is one of those stages that feels exciting… and also brings many questions.
When should you begin? What foods should you offer first? Am I doing this right?

At Mimelu, we believe feeding is not only about nutrition — it’s about discovering, exploring, and sharing meaningful family moments. Today, we’re here to help you begin this journey calmly, respectfully, and with confidence.

When Should You Start Introducing Solid Foods?

The general recommendation is around 6 months of age, when your baby:

  • Can sit with support

  • Shows interest in food

  • Has lost the tongue-thrust reflex (doesn’t push food out automatically)

👉 Every baby develops at their own pace. There’s no rush.

Recommended First Foods

Start with simple, natural, and well-cooked foods:

  • Soft vegetables (zucchini, carrot, squash)

  • Ripe fruits (banana, pear, cooked apple)

  • Unsweetened cereals

  • Well-mashed or pureed legumes

Introduce one new food at a time to observe possible reactions.

Purees or Baby-Led Weaning (BLW)?

Both approaches are valid. What matters most is:

  • Respecting your baby’s development

  • Offering safe foods

  • Creating a calm environment

🔸 Purees: ideal for a gradual start
🔸 Baby-Led Weaning (BLW): encourages independence and exploration

👉 Many families combine both methods.

The Importance of the Feeding Environment

How your baby eats is just as important as what they eat.

  • Avoid distractions

  • Eat together when possible

  • Speak calmly

  • Respect when your baby has had enough

The table is also a space for connection.

Common Feeding Mistakes to Avoid

❌ Forcing your baby to eat
❌ Comparing portions with other babies
❌ Using screens to “make them eat”
❌ Adding salt or sugar

✔️ Confidence
✔️ Patience
✔️ Gentle guidance

Learning That Goes Beyond Food

At Mimelu, we believe feeding is an act of care — and every meal is an opportunity to build healthy habits and beautiful memories.

💛 Because learning to eat is also learning to feel safe.
